Montessori School Math Education - why it works so well

After 15 years as a math teacher and parents of five children, I saw something really new (for me) in Mathematics Education last year that really impressed me.

My (then four years) son attends a Montessori kindergarten class and learned math concepts in a way that I never had a lesson that I used and were not of my three sons' older have learned.

The Montessori math
The Montessori matheducational approach is the transition from concrete to abstract teaching is based in the sense of the jargon as Montessori "works" are really just manipulative.

This well-designed, highly specialized manipulative for each "mathematical work" to make abstract ideas more accessible to a child.

Each new job is to give students only have introduced a one-on-one instruction with the teacher.

Through this individualized teaching, teachers can wait until each student is readyfor the next level of abstraction, before the introduction.

Step-by-Step Progress
Some boys in my son (mixed age) preschool class were still learning to count to twenty, while others place value and learning of addition and subtraction. But younger children can begin the math works also understood that work is required, counting and one-to-one subtraction to make the master, and the value addition and.

This is aextremely important concept to remember for the children. There may be skipping classes in the kindergarten Montessori mathematics curriculum, (and should not "jump" in any program of study of mathematics, in my humble opinion). My friends son understand that each lesson mastering skills is a means to an end in mathematics. It 's a wonderful concept for pre-school math!

mathematics lessons are fun!
From the perspective of my son,"Works", was used to learn math were almost like toys. He learned to play with their concept how the teacher showed him and then came away with a mastery of mathematics. In reality, these activities are just really well designed to teach mathematics, the concept of manipulation that education is a highly concentrated mathematics.

There are works that teach key skills such as mathematics education, measuring, counting, number, number of education, one-to-one, and beyondSubtraction, and even higher mathematical concepts. Every time the mathematics teacher work a new concept of "children, who were willing to approach that in addition to mathematics has excited and energized a new skill to learn mathematics. They observe and help each other complete tasks of work and learn from their colleagues in this way. This is a great way to work have math-group!

He works as a Montessori toys
Some of these would be wonderful math manipulative toysand "kitchen table" classes for parents at home do to their children when introducing mathematical concepts with. I was very happy with the progress my son math using the Montessori Kindergarten - method of teaching mathematics course was an exceptionally talented teacher, but I think that many children could benefit from home use of the Montessori math manipulative, is also .
